THE TAIYA RIVER HAS BEEN STEADILY FALLING THE LAST SEVERAL HOURS WITH A DECREASE IN RAINFALL. THE RIVER PEAKED AT 16.5 FEET AT 130 PM AKDT WHICH IS THE MINOR FLOOD STAGE AND AS OF 9 PM IS AT 16.2 FEET. THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO FALL SLOWLY THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING BUT REMAIN NEAR OR JUST ABOVE THE BANKFULL LEVEL OF 16.0 FEET. NORMAL DIURNAL TRENDS WOULD HAVE THE RIVER BEGIN RISING AGAIN THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BUT THIS RISE WOULD BE LIMITED BY LACK OF DAYTIME HEATING AND COOLING TEMPERATURES ALOFT. ANY HEAVY SHOWERS THAT PASS OVER THE BASIN WILL CAUSE THE RIVER TO SLOW ITS DECLINE OR EVEN RISE AGAIN FOR A PERIOD...BUT IT IS NOT EXPECTED TO REACH MINOR FLOOD STAGE.
