TAZLINA LAKE AND THE TAZLINA RIVER NEAR GLENNALLEN... * UNTIL 445 PM AKDT THURSDAY * A GLACIER DAMMED LAKE ON THE EITHER THE TAZLINA OR NELCHINA GLACIER IS LIKELY RELEASING. THE TAZLINA RIVER HAS BEEN RISING STEADILY OVER THE PAST 24 HOURS. AS OF 430 PM MONDAY IT WAS AT A STAGE OF 28.30 FEET...JUST BELOW THE BANKFULL STAGE OF 28.5 FEET. THE RIVER WILL CONTINUE TO RISE AND IS EXPECTED TO CREST EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING NEAR MINOR FLOOD STAGE OF 31 FEET. EXPECTED IMPACTS: RAPID RISES IN WATER LEVELS ARE POSSIBLE ON TAZLINA LAKE AND THE RIVER DOWNSTREAM OF TAZLINA LAKE INCLUDING THE AREA AROUND THE RICHARDSON HIGHWAY BRIDGE. ALL PERSONS WITH INTERESTS NEAR THE RIVER SHOULD MONITOR THE WATER LEVELS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... THE TAIYA RIVER HAS RESPONDED BY RISING TO 16.6 FEET WHICH IS ABOVE MINOR FLOOD STAGE OF 16.5 FEET AND IT CONTINUES TO RISE. * RAIN IS STARTING TO LIGHTEN UP BUT SOME LIGHT RAIN WILL CONTINUE FALLING ON THE TAIYA RIVER BASIN THROUGH THE NIGHT. THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO CREST AROUND 10 PM AT AROUND 16.9 FEET JUST BELOW MODERATE FLOOD STAGE OF 17.0 FEET. THE RIVER WILL THEN SLOWLY FALL THROUGH THE NIGHT. HIKERS ON THE CHILKOOT TRAIL WILL ENCOUNTER KNEE TO THIGH DEEP WATER ON THE FIRST 3 MILES OF THE TRAIL AND SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE RIVER LEVEL THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... IF YOU LIVE NEAR OR ALONG THE TAIYA RIVER STAY ALERT AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION.
