If there is any type of staff gage at the site, describe it's location below; if no staff exists, choose an arbitrary, but relatively permanent, reference, such as low steel, pier footing, top of culvert, etc. Reference location of point to feet upstream/downstream of bridge/building/other on left/right (looking downstream) bank. If possible, mail a sketch or photo.

Erosion: describe below any erosion that is or has taken place to footings, overflow channels, abutments, etc.
Mark and describe any recent high water marks. Describe both type of mark (leaves, seed lines, woody debris, mudlines), location of mark, and method of marking (color of flagging, plastic disk, etc.)

Your second responsibility is for the safety of the public you serve. If flood conditions threaten safety or property, notify appropriate emergency personnel.
